The Victoria and Albert Museum was founded in 1852 and is named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. It is one of the largest and most significant museums in the world of decorative art and design, housing a permanent collection of more than 4.5 million objects. It profoundly showcases many of the world’s richest cultures, inspirations and human creativities from historical collections that date back over 5,000 years. Admission to the Victoria & Albert museum is free and it opens daily to the public with longer hours on Friday, featuring themed talks, performances and music in the evening. The museum is located in one of the stylish and lavish districts in London, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea where you can also find other top museums including Natural History Museum and Science Museum just around the corner.
The Victoria & Albert Museum owns 145 galleries with both ancient and modern collections of textiles, costumes, jewellery, furniture, silver and so much more from all over the world. For example, the fashion galleries run from eighteenth-century costume to modern dresses while the popular photography gallery displays more than 500,000 images. The departments of Asia, in particular, feature many breath-taking ceramics and metalwork from China, Japan, South Asia, Korea as well as the Islamic world.
For a relaxing coffee break in between galleries or a casual dining on Friday evening, visit the beautifully designed V&A Café, the world’s oldest museum restaurant offering a wide selection of menus, alongside a stunning garden Café opening in summer months.
